Ansar Burney demands conversion of death sentence, release of all prisoners having completed term

Karachi, June 10 (PPI): The human rights organization Ansar Burney Trust International has demanded of Prime Minister to convert all death sentences into life imprisonment and to release all prisoners who have already completed their sentences since long. Chairman Ansar Burney Trust and former caretaker Federal Minister for Human Rights, Ansar Burney in his letters to Prime Minister Yousaf Raza Geelani and Chief Justice of Pakistan Justice Abdul Hameed Dogar demanded to convert all death sentences including death sentence of two Indian Nationals Karpal Singh s/o Das Singh and Sarbjeet Singh into life imprisonment as 60 to 65 percent prisoners facing death sentences in Pakistan are innocent or victim of inadequate trial, false witnesses and enmity.

He also demanded release of all Nationals and Foreign prisoners who have already completed their sentences and still waiting to be released. After completion of sentence period the detention of all such prisoners has become illegal and unlawful and a clear violation of Justice and Human Rights. Ansar Burney informed in the letter that among these prisoners there is an Indian lady Mst. Teena Peka (38) wife of Rajesh, residence of Bombay who was arrested and sentenced twelve years ago for one year with one thousand rupees fine in 1996 but still waiting to be released. Another Indian lady Mst. Naqaya (38) d/o Dharam was sentenced for 4 months in 2007. Likewise a mentally ill unknown lady is waiting to be released and sent back to India since 2007. Ram Parkash s/o Dewan Chand sentenced for 10 years in 1997, Saju Ram (20) son of Jatan Ram was sentenced for 4 months in 2007, Birchu son of Comlais (28) was sentenced in 2006, Ganash Pandi (29) s/o Kana Pandi was sentenced for 2 months in 2007, Gomagh Singh s/o Mehar Chand was sentenced in 2006 for 4 months, Din Mohammad s/o Mir Mohammad sentenced in June 2007 for 3 months, Shahabuddin Mir (63) s/o Sirajuddin Mir on illegal entry was sentenced in 1991, Ilyas s/o Badlu sentenced for 2 years in 2003, Bola s/o Diala waiting to be released since 2007. Ansar Burney said another Indian prisoner Gopal Das (49) s/o Behari Lal was sentenced for 25 years in 1986. Mohammad Muslimuddin s/o Abdul Aziz sentenced for 6 months in 1998, Ramu Ram s/o Shamay Ram was sentenced in 1999 just for one year. Qasim s/o Mohammad (75) Mohammad Amin (66) s/o Haji Ali Mohammad has no record available in Jail. Khursheed Ahmad s/o Abdul Ahad sentenced for one year in 2002 and Arif Hidayat s/o Saleem Hidayat were sentenced for 45 days in 2006 but still waiting to be released. Gopal Das (49) s/o Behari Lal sentenced for 25 years in 1986, Surjeet Singh (69) s/o Sucha Singh was sentenced for 25 years in 1985, Kaldeep Singh (37) s/o Chanda Singh was sentenced for 25 years in 1996, Kaldeep Kumar (41) s/o Nanak Chand was sentenced for 25 years in 1996 and Manga Singh (34) s/o Kartar Singh was sentenced for 25 years in 1997.
