BEIJING, July 01 (PPI): The Chairman of Ansar Burney Trust International and Member of the United Nations Human Rights Council Advisory Committee at Geneva, Ansar Burney, arrived in Beijing on Tuesday morning on the invitation of the Chinese government and was greeted by officials of the Chinese Information Department.
During his first day in China, Burney was invited to pay a visit to the High Court of Beijing, where he viewed trials in process, held meetings with senior judges including the Vice-President of the Beijing High Peoples Court Mr. Wang Zhen Qing and was briefed on the Justice System of China.
Later, Burney was invited to the National Supreme Court of the Peoples Republic of China, where he met with Senior Justice Dang Jianjun and was further briefed on the Justice System of China and the function of the Supreme Peoples Court of Peoples Republic of China.
The Former Federal Minister for Human Rights, Ansar Burney, along with his delegation, are on an official visit to China on the invitation of the Chinese government to assess the human rights situation in the country, particularly the Chinese Justice System, Prisons and state of minorities.
They are also expected to lobby for the release of South Asian prisoners detained in Chinese prisons; and the delegation will visit several prisons in China during their stay in this regard. They will also inform the Chinese government of the problems being faced by South Asian, particularly Pakistani and Indian nationals, in China.
Ansar Burney, along with his delegation, is also expected to meet officials of the Ministries of Interior and Foreign Affairs, along with leaders of minorities during his 6-day visit. Earlier, Yao Jing, the acting Ambassador of China in Islamabad, had seen off Ansar Burney at Islamabad Airport on Monday evening.
