1,352 deported Pakistanis return from Oman

Daily Times (20/04/2006)

KARACHI: At least 1,352 Pakistanis deported from Oman for travelling without documents arrived on Wednesday.

Upon arrival, Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) and Ansar Burney Trust officials interviewed the deportees to gather data on people who sent them abroad illegally. They were released after immigration authorities checked their travel documents issued by the Pakistani Embassy at Muscat. The sick people were sent to a hospital.

The two boats which carried the people were filled above capacity and lacked basic services such as life boats, potable water and hygienic food. The deportees were packed together like livestock. The deportees were given money to return to their homes.

Meanwhile, a separate joint-operation between Ansar Burney Trust and the FIA today resulted in the arrest of human traffickers in Karachi. The group sent people illegally to Europe and Middle Eastern countries. They were kept in private jails and money was extorted from their families. NNI
