KARACHI — At least 150 of the 600 Pakistanis deported from Oman ran away from the custody of the Federal Investigation Authority (FIA) yesterday.
The deported Pakistanis had been lodged in different prisons of Muscat after being arrested for travelling without valid documents. Soon after returning from Oman by a large boat at Ghas Bandar, Keamari, on Thursday, the deported Pakistanis were given into the custody of the FIA for interrogation.
On the special directives of the FIA Director-General Tariq Parvez, senior officials from all four provinces were present at Ghas Bandar to gather information on the agents involved in sending these people abroad on fake promises of better future with good salaries.
However, while the immigration staff was conducting interrogation, dozens of people fled during commotion caused due to a large number of people present there. The security staff of the Karachi Port Trust could not stop them.
According to FIA officials, the deported Pakistanis will be released after some interrogation and legal procedure.
Earlier, on their arrival at Ghas Bandar, Ansar Burney and the volunteers of his welfare trust received the deported Pakistanis. They also arranged drinking water, tea and food for them. According to the trust, over 130,000 Pakistanis have been deported during the last two and a half years.
